Writing Center
The Writing Center is open to students of all levels interested in improving their writing in any discipline. Faculty offer individualized and group instruction in expository and creative writing, research and documentation, as well as grammar and usage. ESL students receive assistance in language development and learning.
In addition to the traditional tutorial session, sessions can also take place online via Zoom or through email. Students are also welcome to use the Department's PC lab for word processing and Internet research when classes are not utilizing the space. Weekly appointments and unscheduled drop-in sessions are available.
Tutoring is available in three instructional modes: Traditional face-to-face sessions, synchronous Zoom meetings, and E-mail.

- Email Tutoring (tutoring takes place entirely through email asynchronously)
To schedule an appointment, click one of the hyperlinks below, select the type of tutorial appointment you prefer, and complete and submit the appropriate form. An appointment confirmation email will be sent to your NCC account that lists the date, time, and either the location of your face-to face tutorial or a Zoom ID number for your Zoom tutorial. If you request an e-tutorial, the appointment time in the confirmation email indicates when your tutor will begin responding to your paper.

Tutoring Guidelines
- Each appointment lasts approximately 50 minutes.
- You can work with a writing tutor for one scheduled appointment each week, but you may drop in for a second unscheduled appointment if a tutor is available.
- After your initial appointment, you may schedule appointments for up to two weeks in advance and continue to extend them each week. This will allow you to work consistently with the same tutor if you desire. Be sure to check your future appointments at the end of each appointment.
- Cancellation and “No-Show” Policy: If you can't keep an appointment, you must call or email us as early as possible to cancel. If you miss two appointments without canceling (two “no-shows”), you will not be permitted to make any more appointments for the remainder of the semester. You will be able to use the Center on a drop-in basis only. If you have any concerns about being marked with a “no-show” appointment, talk with your tutor first, and then with a full-time Writing Center faculty member if necessary.
