The Fall 2009 Nassau Community College Cultural Program Presents Former New York State Supreme Court Judge Sol Wachtler

Garden City, NY – The Fall 2009 Cultural Program is proud to present former New York State Supreme Court Judge Sol Wachtler on Wednesday, October 21 at 11:00 a.m. in the College Center Building. Wachtler will speak about The Myth of Judicial Activism.

Sol Wachtler began his government career in 1963, when he was elected a councilman of North Hempstead. He was appointed to the New York State Supreme Court in 1968 and elected to the Court of Appeals, New York’s highest court, in 1972. In 1985, Wachtler was appointed Chief Judge of the State of New York and the Court of Appeals. Author of the memoir After the Madness and contributor to Serving Mentally Ill Defendants, Wachtler is currently a professor of Constitutional Law at Touro Law School and Chair of the Law and Psychiatry Institute of North Shore Long Island Jewish Hospital. He lives in Manhasset with his wife Joan. They have four children and seven grandchildren.
