Classics For Kids At Nassau Community College Presents Retumba! Afro-Caribbean Dance Ensemble January 7, 2007

Garden City, NY - The popular series Classics for Kids is proud to present the Afro-Caribbean Dance Ensemble !Retumba! on Sunday, January 7, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The dancers, musicians and singers of !Retumba! perform a variety of dances, explaining the history and tradition behind each piece. As their “ship” arrives at each new country, viewers are invited to come ashore and share in the rich cultural traditions of these communities.

Co-founded in 1981 by Artistic Directors Yvette Martinez and Nancy Friedman, this New York City-based, all-female company emphasizes the strengths of women performing together in celebration. The members of the company are from many different ethnic, cultural and artistic backgrounds, and each member also has a unique background in music and dance. !Retumba!’s high-energy performances demonstrate the similarities and links of our shared cultures.

Retumba! is sponsored by the NCC Cultural Program. Tickets cost $1.50 per person. Performances are held in the College Center Building on the NCC campus, which is accessible to the disabled. Since seating is limited, parents are urged to purchase tickets in advance. For more information, call 516.572.7153.
