Student Policy for a Drug-Free Campus

Campus Security Policies, Crime Statistics, and Crime Log

Nassau Community College’s Public Safety Department is here to ensure that everyone’s experience on campus is a safe and secure one. Information related to Safety Awareness is available on the NCC College Website, and includes the College’s Annual Security Report, with information and statistics mandated by the JEANNE CLERY/CAMPUS CRIME STATISTICS ACT. This report includes crime statistics for the previous three years concerning certain crimes reported to have occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by NCC, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.  The Annual Security Report also includes information about police and public safety resources, reporting crimes, coordination between law enforcement agencies, fire and medical emergencies, crime prevention, campus sexual violence prevention programs and resources, "timely warning" and emergency notification policy statement, and the College’s Policy on Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence.

Information is also available on campus crisis intervention and the procedures for addressing situations when  students exhibit violent and/or aggressive behavior in the classroom or elsewhere on campus.

Environmental Health and Safety

The Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is committed to providing a College-wide program that will ensure the health, safety and improvement of the working and academic environments. The EHS office will serve as a resource center for academic and administrative departments and will advise employees and students who may be seeking advice and counsel in health and safety matters. The Office’s primary responsibility is to provide a working environment free of recognized hazards that adheres to Federal, State and Local environmental and occupational safety and health laws.

Transfer of Credit Policies and Articulation Agreements

Transferring Credits Earned From Other Institutions: The College's Policies concerning the transfer of credits are described in the Admission Information section of the College Catalog, under the heading "Transferring Credits." The Office of Admission provides students with information concerning transferring courses and credits to Nassau Community College, while the Transfer Counseling staff assists students with planning their transfer from Nassau Community College to four-year institutions of higher education.

Student Code of Conduct

The College is committed to providing an atmosphere in which students have freedom to learn and engage in the search for truth, knowledge, and reason in accordance with the standards set forth by the academic community. Conduct that adversely affects a student’s responsible membership in the academic community shall result in appropriate disciplinary action. 

Sexual Harassment, Sexual Violence, Title IX Complaints

Nassau Community College is dedicated to ensuring that all forms of Sex Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, Sexual Violence, Dating Violence, Domestic Violence and Stalking are corrected early and firmly in the interest of maintaining a safe and barrier-free working and learning environment. The College is committed to full compliance with Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, as well as to the requirements of Article 129-B of the New York State Education Law. Information for Crime Victims about Disciplinary Proceedings

Under the rules promulgated by the College’s Code of Conduct and the College’s Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence Policy, the College discloses to alleged victims of any crime of violence or sex offense, the results of any disciplinary proceedings conducted by the College against the alleged perpetrator.  If you are an alleged victim of a crime or violence or a sex offense, but have not participated in the College’s disciplinary process against the perpetrator, you are still entitled, upon making a written request to either the Dean of Students or to the Affirmative Action Office to receive the results of any disciplinary proceedings conducted by the College.

Policies concerning Copyright Infringement, Computer Usage and File Sharing

The College provides campus computing technologies, resources, and data network to its students.  However, in order to utilize these resources, students must abide by the College's Acceptable Use of Computer Resources and Electronic Communication Policy.  The purpose of this Policy is to outline the acceptable use of computer and information technology resources provided by NCC to students, faculty, staff, and other authorized individuals. Inappropriate use exposes the College to risks, including breach of computer security, exposure of restricted data, compromise of network systems/services, detriments to technology performance, institutional/brand damage and legal liability. NCC is committed to protecting students, faculty, staff, and the College from illegal or damaging actions by individuals, either knowingly or unknowingly.

As reflected in the Acceptable Use Policy, the College strictly prohibits the users of its networks from engaging in unauthorized distribution of copyrighted materials, including unauthorized peer-to-peer file sharing.  Students should be aware that unauthorized or illegal use of College computers (such as engaging in illegal file sharing and distribution of copyrighted materials), is an infraction of the Student Code of Conduct and may subject them to disciplinary measures. Further, anyone who engages in such illegal file sharing is violating the United States Copyright law, and may be subject to criminal and civil penalties. Under federal law, a person found to have infringed upon a copyrighted work may be liable for actual damages and lost profits attributable to the infringement, and statutory damages of up to $150,000. The copyright owner also has the right to permanently enjoin an infringer from further infringing activities, and the infringing copies and equipment used in the infringement can be impounded and destroyed. If a copyright owner elected to bring a civil lawsuit against the copyright infringer and ultimately prevailed in the claim, the infringer may also become liable to the copyright owner for their attorney's fees and court costs. Finally, criminal penalties may be assessed against the infringer and could include jail time, depending upon the severity of the violation.

The College is authorized by the New York State Board of Regents and by the New York State Department of Education to award two-year Associate Degrees in Arts (A.A.), Science (A.S.), Applied Science (A.A.S.), and Occupational Studies (A.O.S.), and is also authorized to award Certificates for programs of study of less than two years. Financial Literacy-The understanding and management of personal finance and student loan debt are financial literacy topics of particular importance to college students.

NCC Federal Title IV Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards Policy - Students receiving federal Title IV aid for their educational costs are required to maintain an acceptable cumulative GPA, while at the same time completing a specified percentage of the credits for which they register within a certain time frame.  The maximum time frame may not exceed 150% of the published length of the educational program measured in credit hours attempted.

If your award package reflects a loan offer, you can accept it online or complete a Loan Request form. All new borrowers must sign an electronic promissory note and complete an Entrance Counseling session at www.studentloans.gov.

In order for your Federal Loan to be deducted from your bill you must complete these steps:

Step 1: “Accept” your loan award. You can do this on MyNCC or by completing a Loan Request form, found on the forms. (Note: The web accept function on MyNCC is not available during the spring semester.)  

Step 2: Complete an MPN (Master Promissory Note)

Step 3: Complete an Entrance Counseling Session

Complete both steps 2 & 3 at www.studentloans.gov (make sure you receive a confirmation). All steps must be completed at least 3 business days before the BILL DUE DATE to allow for system updates. The Office of Financial Aid cannot accept paper confirmations to satisfy this requirement. 

IMPORTANT: Student must be enrolled for at least 6 credits toward your degree/certificate program to receive loans.
