February 3: NCC Hosts "Poetry Out Loud" Competition

Nassau Community College to Host Regional Poetry Out Loud Competition on February 3

 

Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College will host part of the statewide Poetry Out Loud competition on Friday, February 3 at 6:00 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the College Center Building. During the event, which is free and open to the public, high school students from Nassau and western Suffolk counties will compete in a regional recitation competition in an attempt to advance to the state finals in Syracuse on March 10.

The State University of New York (SUNY) has partnered with the Teachers & Writers Collaborative, National Endowment for the Arts and New York State Council on the Arts to facilitate New York's Poetry Out Loud contest. In addition to being held on several SUNY campuses during the month of February, the competition will take place simultaneously in states across the nation and in countries worldwide.

According to Poetry Out Loud New York, over 14,000 New York State high school students participated in the competition at the local level this season. The national Poetry Out Loud final contest will take place in April in Washington, DC.
