Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College — site of the 2009 American Heart Walk on Sunday, October 4, 2009 has named Chuck Henke of Huntington Station its honoree for the event. Henke has worked at the college as a coach of the wrestling team since 1970 and is also a professor in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department, where he teaches camping, weightlifting and racquetball. “I am truly honored to be chosen as this year’s honoree. This event is very important to me,” he said.

Surviving two heart attacks since 2005, Henke firmly believes that “you must be on top of your physical condition and vigilant in knowing the warning signs of a possible heart condition.” He exercises often and gets regular check ups.

Henke and his wife Susan live in Huntington Station. They have two grown sons and four grandchildren.

The American Heart Walk, sponsored by the American Heart Association, is a 5K walking event established to raise funds in the fight against heart disease and stroke on Long Island. It also promotes cardiovascular health and regular exercise. The event is free and open to the public. Walkers are encouraged to participate.
