"Take a Walk in My Shoes:  Real Life Stories by NCC Senior Citizen Observers"

Garden City, NY — Nassau Community College is proud to present the following real life stories from its senior citizen observers. All of the presentations take place on Wednesday, April 22 in the College Center Building. For more information about this event, please call 516.572.7153.

9:30 a.m. The Art of Salesmanship Paul Burros Selling products, selling yourself  it's many of the same techniques. Burros was a salesman for Pabco Industries, which had gross sales of over a million dollars per year in the 1970s.

10:00 a.m. A Yankee Goes to the Segregated South in the 1950s Tom DeFazio An Air Force veteran, DeFazio was an MP in charge of town patrol in Valdosta, Georgia during the early 50s. How did this northern Yankee react to the segregation then prevalent in the south? 11:00 a.m. Exploring a Sunken Spanish Galleon Gloria Devereaux Scuba diver Gloria Devereaux traveled extensively in the Yucatan from 1969 to 1978. She will talk about her explorations of the 17th century Spanish ship Senora de Los Milagros, located underwater off the Yucatan in Punta Matanomeros, Mexico. Devereaux, 86, is also a watercolor artist. She will bring her paintings as well as several artifacts from the ship to her presentation. 11:30 a.m. How I Accidentally Became a Teacher Nancy Walordy Nancy Walordy taught math and science in high schools on Long Island and in New Jersey. 12:30 p.m. The ABCs of Publicity and Advertising Marge Stein Have a story to tell the media? Who do you call? What should you say? Currently the owner of Marge Stein Communications, Stein was the director of publicity at North Shore Animal League for 30 years and has worked with many non-profits in the animal field. She will share her extensive experience in publicity and advertising.
