Nassau Community College Names Susan Kosciukowicz Its 2008 American Heart Walk Honoree

Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College–site of the 2008 American Heart Walk on Sunday, September 28, 2008 – has named Susan Kosciukowicz its honoree for the event. Kosciukowicz, who has worked for the College for over 20 years, is currently an employee in the Lifelong Learning Department. "I'm truly honored to be this year's NCC honoree," she said.

In September 2007, Kosciukowicz suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm. She has had numerous procedures and spent months in and out of rehabilitation centers. Kosciukowicz recently returned to her home in Garden City. Her daughter, Caroline Falconetti, is an instructor in the Accounting and Business Administration Department.

Kosciukowicz still attends an outpatient therapy program but is eager to return to work at the College in the near future. She often comments that "she could not have done this without the support of her friends and family."

Extremely appreciative of the doctors who made her recovery possible, Kosciukowicz urges others to get regular checkups, take care of their health and diet, exercise and be alert for the warning signs of possible brain aneurysms.

The American Heart Walk, sponsored by the American Heart Association, is a 5K walking event established to raise funds in the fight against heart disease and stroke on Long Island. It also promotes cardiovascular health and regular exercise.
