October 21, 2025, Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College will be the site of the annual “Operation Democracy” Civics Summit. The high school civics summit will take place on Friday, October 24, in several rooms in the College Center Building.
During the event, David Spinnato from the East Meadow Union Free School District will speak about Flags for Freedom. The film Sixth of June will be shown, as will the trailer for Mother of Normandy. This year’s morning keynote speaker is Helen Patton, granddaughter of General George S. Patton and a producer and actress in such films as A Father’s Revenge, In the Shadow of War, and Black Jack. Patton is also the founder of the Patton Foundation, which seeks to preserve WWII history through stories and events. Patton, who’s organization perpetuates the memory of her grandfather, believes in liberation and reconciliation for every generation.
The summit’s afternoon keynote speakers are:
Jean Quetier – Mayor of Sainte-Mère-Èglise, the first town in Normandy to be liberated
on D-Day Maurice Renaud – A respected remembrance leader in Normandy
Doug Stebleton – An award-winning documentary filmmaker
Jeff Stoffer – Director, Media & Communications for The American Legion
