August 11, 2025, Garden City, NY – Rebound on the Road – a program started by former professional basketball player Jayson Williams, which partnered with Nassau Community College and Nassau County – held its first graduation today. Twelve students were in the first cohort, and all of them have gotten jobs as part of their graduation.
The Rebound on the Road program helps individuals recovering from substance abuse and those recently released from prison get their commercial driver’s licenses and secure well-paying truck driving jobs that will hopefully keep them on the right path. The program’s belief is that if you give a person a job, you give them hope, self-esteem and self-respect, and they can then go out in this world and change it.
During the eight-week program, a guided rehabilitation plan includes training to drive tractor-trailers. Upon completion, participants earn their commercial driver’s license and secure jobs. Participants are required to drive with a supervisor in the truck for close to three months before they are certified.
Nassau Community College is proud to have been the site for the initial Rebound on the Road training as well as its first graduation ceremony.
