May 18 Expo to Connect Minority, Women-Owned
Businesses to Prime Contractors

Garden City, NY - Looking for a new business opportunity?

Nassau Community College of the State University of New York is hosting the annual “Build Your Business with the Primes Expo” on Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the College’s Center Building (CCB) on its Garden City campus. The public is invited and admission is free. To register, please visit:  https://www.ncc.edu/aboutncc/ourpeople/administration/affirmative_action/prime_expo.shtml

Small business owners and entrepreneurs, including minorities, women, and U.S. service-disabled veterans, are invited to learn how to conduct business with Nassau Community College, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Nassau County Office of Minority Affairs, and Sands New York, which recently applied to the county to build an integrated resort and entertainment center in Uniondale.

This event will provide an opportunity to network and attend information sessions about procurement procedures, contracting and subcontracting opportunities, MWBE and WBE certifications, and financial and grant assistance. Attendees will learn about resources and technical assistance available to small businesses from Empire State Development (ESD.gov), the Entrepreneurship Assistance Center Program of Hofstra University, the African American Chamber of Commerce of Long Island, and similar entities.

From 10:50 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. exhibiting and breakout sessions with vendors will be held in the Multipurpose Room and Lobby of the CCB Building, first floor.

“Nassau Community College is committed to encouraging the growth and participation of minority, women, and service-disabled veteran-owned businesses in its procurements,” said Theresa Aydelott, Interim Chief Diversity Officer for NCC. “This event will mark the economic impact the college has in the communities that we serve.”

About the Expo
The Expo is an opportunity for owners or representatives of small businesses such as MWBEs (Minority Women Business Enterprise), DBEs (Disadvantaged Business Enterprise) and SDVOBs (Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business) to meet with prime contractors and government agency representatives to explore immediate contract opportunities. Prime contractors work directly with the government. They manage subcontractors and are responsible for ensuring that the work is completed as defined in the contract.
