Talking Tech Competition

Talking Tech

Here are the winning entries (below) from this year's "Talking Tech" writing competition, which invited NCC students to reflect on the impact of digital technology on their lives, their relationships, and their world.  The competition was sponsored by   NCC 101: The College Experience, the NCC Bookstore, the Student Programming Board, and the NCC Foundation in cooperation with the First-Year Experience Committee and the Center for Arts & Humanities.  We thank these groups for their generosity and support.

NCC Talking Tech Competition

We live in a time of rapid change, brought about largely by dramatic advances in digital and other technologies.  While many see such changes as overwhelmingly positive, some worry about the impact of technology on the human condition—our attention spans, our expectations, our values, our ability to form relationships, even our ability to be comfortable with ourselves when not logged in.

Is there a human downside to technology?  Are important pieces of our humanity being “rewired” by the digital revolution?  Or are fears about tech’s impact on our hearts and minds greatly exaggerated?
