The department offers courses that will allow students to become certified and obtain employment after completion. Earning a certificate can open doors to new job opportunities, promotions with increased salaries, and specializations in areas related to your profession. These certification courses and micro-credentials not only enhance students’ skills and knowledge but also provide valuable credentials for future career opportunities in related fields.

Personal Training Certification (SUNY Micro-Credential)

This certification offers students the opportunity to become a Certified Personal Trainer. Being certified is imperative to safety and effectively designed fitness programs that help clients achieve their goals.  The fitness industry continues to grow by leaps and bounds. Now more than ever before, people are recognizing the importance of keeping their bodies fit. This National Council on Strength and Fitness (NCSF) certification is a ticket to employment in any recreation center or health club.

Water Safety Instructor Certification

The Water Safety Instructor, also known as WSI™, course trains instructor candidates to teach all of the courses presented in the Swimming and Water Safety program to all age groups. Students who complete this course will not only receive credit as a physical education elective but will also be qualified to be a swim instructor.

Lifeguard Certification

The course will teach you the practical skills of lifeguarding, such as water rescue, casualty recovery, CPR and first aid for professional rescuer. Students who successfully complete the lifeguard certification course will be issued the certification for 2 years and can obtain employment immediately. The shortages of lifeguards in Nassau County almost guarantees employment after receiving this certification.

CPR & AED Certification

Students will acquire lifesaving practices and procedures to perform cardio-pulmonary and basic life support. The course meets the requirements for the American Red Cross and Heart Association Certification.
Courses Needed: HED 290

First Aid & CPR Certification

Students will acquire the knowledge on the immediate care of injuries and their prevention.
Successful completion of this course will certify the student in the American Red Cross Responding to Emergencies and Adult CPR.
