After having my daughter, I knew that I would no longer be able to attend school full-time or continue at the university at which I was previously enrolled. I also knew that I still wanted to continue my education. SUNY Nassau was the best option for me, due to its affordable tuition, proximity to my house and -- especially -- the availability of the Children's Greenhouse right on campus. I was accepted into the SUNY Nassau/Empire State College four-year nursing program and am currently working through my first semester as a nursing student.

Without the Greenhouse I genuinely would have had no chance at completing my education. It's given me the ability to attend classes with the peace of mind that my daughter is being cared for in an amazing, safe environment. The staff has always been extremely helpful about scheduling, too. I bonded with other moms there who are dealing with situations like mine. And the Empowerment Grant has allowed me to return to school with only the weight of tuition on my shoulders.

Without the pressure of paying for childcare I can spend more time studying and preparing for class, which is imperative for success in the nursing program. I would absolutely recommend SUNY Nassau and the Children's Greenhouse to others, especially those looking for a more flexible schedule or cost-efficient college. I hope to graduate with my bachelor's degree in nursing and eventually explore other fields in medicine.

I served in the United States Navy in Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, II and at Camp Pendleton with the 5th Marines. I was also deployed to Okinawa, Japan twice. Stateside, I knew that Nassau Community College has a reputation for being very military friendly, and when I got here, it was true.
