It was a full house last weekend for NCC's first on-campus information session about the SUNY Reconnect program.
Through SUNY Reconnect, eligible New York State residents aged 25 to 55 with no college degree can study high-demand fields including cybersecurity, health studies, information technology, and more at no cost to them.

The Science Technology Entry Program (STEP) at Nassau Community College had their Westbury High School STEP students amplify their bilingual voices through podcast and digital media under the guidance of STEP teacher Shirley Vargas.
The Podcast and Digital Media STEP Program at Westbury High School, NCC-STEP Bilingual Voice, "La Voz Bilingüe de NCC-STEP," is buzzing with creativity, collaboration, and content creating technology. In a spirit of community and collaboration, Westbury’s STEP students recently supported Brentwood High School’s theater department by providing behind-the-scenes media coverage for their latest production. This partnership gave students real-world experience in field recording of the actors, while also showcasing their talents in communication.

The Liberty Partnerships Program at Nassau Community College sponsored a trip to Adventureland for students participating in our Summer Program. Over 150 students, staff and parents spent the day at Adventureland where they had the chance to meet up as an LPP family.
The LPP grant provides opportunities for students to engage in activities that promote social skills and networking. The afternoon was filled with smiles and laughter.
Throughout the summer, students were engaged in enrichment programs, tutoring and experiences that provided opportunities to develop leadership and decision-making skills. Most recently, STEP students at WMS have been working and learning engineering concepts for the Long Island Science Center.
Students are learning about Bernoulli's Principles, a principle which states that when a fluid moves faster, it creates less pressure. Essentially, faster moving fluids have lower pressure compared to slower moving fluids. This principle is fundamental to understanding how airplanes fly and why a ball can levitate when you blow air around it. Learning the Bernoulli Principles has allowed the NCC STEP students to effectively build their own model airplanes. Students are building hovercrafts as well. Overall, the Westbury Middle School STEP students have made large strides in exploring STEM with their hard work and hands on activities.
