Parking Lot Renovations

PARKING LOT RENOVATIONS, Phase 1 & 2

Completed 2012

Since 2008, NCC has been focused on increasing parking capacity, improving internal campus circulation systems, alleviate traffic bottlenecks and providing pedestrian safety by upgrading lighting levels and parking lot security measures.

Phase 1 of the Parking Renovation Program involved restriping the existing West lots as well as providing a new 400 car lot adjacent to the Campus’ main entrance at Charles Lindbergh Blvd. Phase 2 of the program included redeveloping a neglected, 20-acre portion of the Campus that still had remnants of the 1961 air force base runways and taxiways. The design solution includes a single-lane roundabout which serves as a central node for access to the new parking fields. The redesign of the site was centered on green infrastructure by treating infiltrating storm water in a sustainable manner, utilizing energy efficient lighting.  New Campus connections are achieved via the new roundabout and safe pedestrian walkways and bicycle facilities have been provided. A profound gateway to the Campus has been created while continuing the College’s environmental commitment.
