Nassau Community College Hosts Second-Annual Wushu Championships
Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College once again hosted this year’s Wushu Championships, the second held in Nassau County, on April 18, 2026. Hundreds of athletes from across the U.S., Canada, and China competed in hundreds of events at the championships, according to Meng Li, Nassau County Deputy Director of Asian American Affairs.
The Wushu Championships are sports competitions for the disciplines of wushu taolu (routines) and sanda (full-contact fighting) events. Kung fu is a broader term referring to any acquired skill through effort and practice, often used in the context of Chinese martial arts, while wushu specifically refers to the modern, performance-based forms of Chinese martial arts, particularly those used in competitive sports. The Tai Chi Qigong Association of America hosted its first 2025 International Wushu Championships at NCC.
NCC was honored to once again host the Wushu Championships and looks forward to a continued partnership in the future.
