Nassau Community College Hosts Community Action Poverty Simulation Led by Nassau County Department of Health
Garden City, NY (April 14, 2026) — Nassau Community College (NCC) proudly hosted the
Nassau County Department of Health, Choice for All, and the Long Island Health Collaborative
for a Community Action Poverty Simulation on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the NCC CCB
Building. This immersive, hands-on experience is designed to deepen participants’
understanding of the complex realities faced by individuals and families living in
poverty. Through a guided simulation, attendees navigated real-world challenges associated
with limited financial resources, time constraints, and access to essential services.
The event aims to foster empathy and provide valuable insights that can meaningfully
impact how professionals and community members approach patient care, social services,
and community support systems.
The event was open to a wide range of participants, including elected officials, community-based
organization leaders and staff, healthcare providers, social service professionals,
students, and institutional decision-makers. All those interested in gaining a deeper
understanding of poverty and its impact are encouraged to attend in the future.
