July 16, 2025, Garden City, NY – Two Nassau Community College Lions were recently selected by the State University of New York (SUNY) as NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) conference overall 2024-2025 Scholar Athletes of the Year.

SUNY recently honored lacrosse player Brady Dolan (Lindenhurst, AS – Accounting & Business Administration, GPA 3.4), who led the country and the 2025 NJCAA National Offensive leaderboard in two major categories, points and assists, with 91 points and 58 assists in only 13 games. He was named to the 2025 All-American First Team and led Nassau to a second in the country, NJCAA National Runner Up finish. Dolan was also named to the 2025 NJCAA National Championship All-Tournament Team. He led Nassau to notch back-to-back NJCAA North Atlantic District Championships in 2025 and 2024. As a freshman, Dolan was named to the NJCAA All-American Second Team and led the team to the NJCAA Final Four, finishing third in the country.

Joining Brady in SUNY Scholar Athlete honors for spring 2025 is NCC Men’s volleyball player Hunter Dunn (New Hyde Park – Culinary Arts, Hospitality Business, GPA 3.77).  Dunn was a major contributor to the team finishing second in the country as the NJCAA runner-up, with an impressive 26-4 record.  He was named Region 15 Co-Setter of the Year, notching 272 assists, ranked eighth in the country, and averaging 6.48 assists per set, ranked 10th in the country.

Other Nassau awardees from their respective seasons include Men’s wrestling team member Joseph Mattei (New Hyde Park – Accounting & Business Administration, GPA 4.0) and Elizabeth Wagner of Women’s volleyball (Island Park – Accounting & Business Administration, GPA 3.83).

The SUNY Scholar Athlete Awards recognize outstanding academic and athletic success in 29 different sports and are presented three times a year to coincide with the specific sports contested in the fall, winter, and spring seasons. Individuals were nominated and voted upon by representatives of their respective institutions. Those put forward then had their academic and athletic achievements reviewed by a panel of athletic directors from across the SUNY system.
