Nassau Community College Announces Plaza Art Gallery Exhibition
Lunar Collection: Yurko Gutsulyak

Gallery Talk & Opening Reception 11/21/23

WHO/WHAT:  Ukrainian artist and designer Yurko Gutsulyak presents intricately designed greeting cards sent annually at Lunar New Year.  Celestial bodies, especially the moon, fascinate artist Yurko Gutsulyak.  Using Lunar New Year as an annual opportunity to express gratitude to friends, colleagues, and fans, Gutsulyak embarked on a twelve-year greeting card project.  The exhibition Lunar Collection includes each of the twelve specially designed cards sent across the globe to hundreds of people.  Each unique design delights its recipient with a puzzle, a moment of wit and humor, or wishes for good luck in the upcoming year. 

WHEN:            Exhibition: November 6 – December 20, 2023
                          Monday – Saturday 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
                          Evening Hours: 11.14.2023 and 12.5.2023 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.

  • Illustrated Artist’s Lecture: 10:00 - 11:15 a.m., College Center Building (CCB), Room 252
    Join colleagues from the Art Department, students, staff, and members of the local community for an illustrated talk by Yurko Gutsulyak.  This talk will focus on the artist’s innovate approaches to packaging design, an area where he has garnered international awards and recognition.
  • Gallery Talk with the Artist, Yurko Gutsulyak: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Plaza Art Gallery
    The artist will offer a Gallery Talk introducing the exhibition to the campus and wider communities.  All are welcome to drop-in at anytime during the hour. 
  • Opening Reception with the Artist, Yurko Gutsulyak: 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Plaza Art Gallery
    Please join us for a festive reception in honor of the artist to kick-off our exhibition schedule for 2023-2024.

ALL EVENTS ARE FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Plaza Art Gallery, an extension of the art gallery program established at Nassau Community College in the 1960s, is a 2,550 square foot gallery situated in the center of campus on the main plaza.  Natural sunlight pours through the six-foot windows and a two-story area allows for large sculptures, installations, and paintings.  A space that invites investigation of the visual arts, the Plaza Art Gallery supports the work of the robust Art Department at Nassau Community College and presents a year-round schedule of exhibitions and events.
