The Battle of Long Island:  NCC Lions Roar to Victory
Over the SUNY Suffolk Sharks

February 3, 2023 Garden City, NY — Nassau and Suffolk community colleges took to the court for the annual men’s and women’s basketball games in the Battle of Long Island. The Lion’s basketball teams of Nassau Community College triumphed over the Sharks of Suffolk County Community College on February 3, 2023. The matches were held on NCC’s Garden City campus with the women’s game at 6 p.m. and the men’s game at 8 p.m. The cheer teams from both SUNY campuses – and mascots Leo the Lion and Fin the Shark – added to the spirited atmosphere.

NCC and SCCC administrators, alumni, faculty, students and invited guests were in attendance. As the teams took to the court, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, Suffolk County Community College President Dr. Edward Bonahue and Nassau Community College President Dr. Maria Conzatti imparted  motivational wisdom over the public address system. A reception sponsored by the NCC Foundation, which raises funds for student scholarships, was held throughout the game as spectators took to the mezzanine level of the gymnasium to watch the  game from above.

In the end, the Lions were victorious with a men’s win of 73 to 54 and a women’s win of 76 to 37.

The game was livestreamed by NassauLions.com with audio provided by WHPC 90.3 FM, which was voted as the Best Radio Station on Long Island for 2023 in the annual Bethpage Federal Credit Union “Best of Long Island” contest.
