SUNY Nassau Community College’s Radio Station, WHPC 90.3 FM, Named Finalist for College Radio Station of the Year by the National Association of Broadcasters

Radio Station Will Celebrate 50th Anniversary Days After Award Ceremony

July 27, 2022 Garden City, NY - SUNY Nassau Community College is pleased to announce that WHPC 90.3 FM has been named a finalist for a Marconi Award in the category of “College Radio Station of the Year” by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB). WHPC is the only Community College, and non-University radio station nominated for the award. This is the second nomination for WHPC for this award; the first was in 2019.

“The Marconi Awards are equivalent to the Academy Awards for the radio industry. As the only Community College named a finalist for the ‘College Radio Station of the Year,’ it gives me great pride to represent and lead WHPC,” said Shawn Novatt, Director of WHPC 90.3 FM. “This recognition would never have happened without the talent of all of the staff and community volunteers that, by working together, make WHPC the award-winning radio station it is.  Wish us luck in October!”

Winners will be announced at a live event at NAB Show New York, taking place at the Javits Center on October 19, 2022. WHPC 90.3 FM will celebrate its 50th Anniversary of broadcasting on October 27, 2022. Over the past five years, the radio station has won 15 awards from the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System, including three “Best Community College Radio Station” awards.

Nassau Community College’s radio station is home to approximately 100 volunteers, most of whom are SUNY Nassau students.  Its programming includes sports, entertainment and informational shows, including a variety of music shows featuring pop, rock, hip-hop, country, sports talk, polka and Caribbean, Spanish and Italian music.  The station can be heard at 90.3 FM and worldwide through the iHeartRadio, Audacy, TuneIn, and ‘WHPC’ apps, as well as on Amazon Alexa and Google Home devices (say “Play WHPC!”). It is the only college radio station in Nassau and Suffolk to broadcast in high definition.
