During the program, Dr. Ling Zhu will speak about how disruptive information technologies and data analytics are transforming business processes, and how the leading Internet-based businesses in the United States (such as Facebook, Amazon, Netflix and Google) and China (such as Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent) achieve competitive advantages through their powerful data assets.

Dr. Zhu is a business professor at LIU Post and is the founding director of the Data Analytics and Strategic Business Intelligence program.  He holds a Ph.D. in MIS (Management Information Systems) from the University of Arizona Eller College of Management, and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.

Noted NCC President Dr. W. Hubert Keen, “We at NCC are extremely pleased to host the only Confucius Institute of Business in the SUNY system, and we look forward to forging a deeper relationship with the CIB to foster a greater understanding of the business needs of China and the United States, and, through collaboration, deepen the ties of commerce and industry between the two countries.”

The Confucius institute of Business was established in December 2010.  It is a partnership between the State University of New York (SUNY), The Confucius Institute Headquarters in China (Hanban), and the Nanjing University of Finance and Economics (NUFE). There are more than 450 Confucius Institutes in the world. Nassau Community College is the only SUNY institution to partner with the CIB; The Nassau Community College site is the only Confucius Institute for Business in the U.S. and North America.

Said Prof. Steve Levine, Coordinator of the Confucius Institute of Business, “I am honored to serve as liaison between the CIB and NCC, so that we can develop synergies between the two countries’ businesses and collaborate on best practices and methodologies which will enhance commerce, both locally and globally.”

The mission of the CIB is to integrate the study of Chinese language and culture and how to connect this learning to the Chinese and global marketplaces.  In turn, the CIB partners with the United States to deliver a program customized to the skills and knowledge required to meet both countries’ business goals.
