Raynor Robinson is a Speech and Debate Team member at Nassau Community College.
As a debater, I've gained a deep understanding of arguments and how to analyze them in all aspects of life, academic, domestic, or otherwise. There's nothing like the nights after a day of competition, where, after dinner, we get together to review our ballots (judges' reviews of our performances that day), discuss them, and practice our events in front of each other. It's one of the only times we see each other's events and when we feel most like a team.
This club takes a lot of investment, and that investment will inevitably pay off if you have the will and passion because we have two of the best coaches in the entire country. If you're unsure of whether you have said passion, join us in the Fall semester; there's no hard commitment one must make unless you decide to join us in the Spring semester. Team members are expected to practice every day and we have coaching sessions weekly, but we only meet as a whole team a handful of times throughout each semester.
Students interested in joining the Speech and Debate Team should email Professor Trent Webb at Trent.Webb@ncc.edu.

I served in the United States Navy in Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, II and at Camp Pendleton with the 5th Marines. I was also deployed to Okinawa, Japan twice. Stateside, I knew that Nassau Community College has a reputation for being very military friendly, and when I got here, it was true.
