NEWS RELEASE

Immediate: August 4, 2015

Nassau Community College to Participate in the American Heart/Stroke Walk on Sunday, September 20

Garden City, NY – Jones Beach, Field 5 is again the official Nassau County location for this year's American Heart/Stroke Walk. Three thousand volunteers and participants are expected to take part in the walk, which will take place on Sunday, September 20, with registration from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and the walk starting at 10:00 a.m.

"Nassau Community College is pleased to again support the American Heart/Stroke Walk for the fourteenth year," said Dr. Kenneth Saunders, Acting President of NCC. "The partnership established over the years between the College and the American Heart Association has created opportunities for thousands of walkers to raise much needed funding for heart and stroke research." Last year NCC collected over $9,000 in donations.

The American Heart/Stroke Walk, sponsored by the American Heart Association, is a three-mile walk event established to raise funds in the fight against heart disease and stroke on Long Island. It also promotes cardiovascular health and regular exercise. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the number one killer of men and women — more than all cancers combined.

If you would like to participate or volunteer in this year's American Heart/Stroke Walk, please contact Sue Wakefield at 516.572.7205 x24012 for information about NCC's participation in the event.
