Garden City, NY – The Spring 2010 Cultural Program at Nassau Community College is proud to present New York State Assemblyman Bob Sweeney (11th District, Suffolk County), who will speak about Environmental Issues and Public Policy in New York State in Building F, Room 123 on Thursday, April 22 at 2:30 p.m.  Assemblyman Sweeney’s talk will emphasize environmental issues and government action on Long Island.

Assemblyman Bob Sweeney is a lifelong resident of the 11th assembly district in the town of Babylon. He was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 1988. Sweeney chairs the New York State Assembly committee on environmental conservation. The committee has jurisdiction over legislation affecting state environmental policy. Its primary concerns are pollution prevention and control, resource management and environmental quality control issues. Sweeny has shepherded numerous bills into law concerning environmental issues. Among the issues the committee has worked on has been legislation to increase the environmental protection fund, which will fuel increases in such programs as municipal parks, waterfront revitalization and farmland protection.

As a result of his efforts, Sweeney has been named an Environmental Star by the New York League of Conservation Voters and Legislator of the Year by EPL/Environmental Advocates, a nonprofit organization that works on behalf of environmental issues in New York State.
