For nearly five decades, Nassau Community College has provided students with a quality education. Nassau Community College was created as part of the State University of New York (SUNY) in 1959. When the College first opened on February 1, 1960, it was housed in a wing of the old County Courthouse in Mineola, New York. It had only 632 students.

Enrollment increased dramatically after 1962. Classes were moved to more spacious facilities at the former U.S. Air Force base at Mitchel Field. Over the years, there has been continued response to an ever-increasing student population. In 1978, two new academic wings, a modern library, a physical education complex and an administrative tower were added. In January 1997, a Social Sciences and Visual Arts Building opened, followed in September of the same year by an 85,000-square-foot College Center. Today, enrollment at Nassau Community College today is nearly 21,000 full- and part-time students. |
