A Brief History of WHPC
WHPC has been the Voice of Nassau Community College since 1972. 90.3 fm was originally assigned to Sewanaka High School (WSHS) in the 1940's. When the frequency was sold, Adelphi and Nassau each made separate deals with Sewanaka. Instead of a long court battle, which was threatened, NCC and Adelphi agreed to split the frequency. In 1995, Adelphi sold their portion of the frequency to Nassau Community College. WHPC has been broadcasting 24 hours a day since the acquisition of Adelphi's portion of the frequency.

WHPC is proud to provide quality programming for Nassau Community College and to its broad audience in the community it serves. In our efforts to reflect the interests of our listeners, we are constantly evaluating our programming and updating it based on the needs and interests of our audience. Last January, we instituted our themed program schedule and we are pleased to announce it has been a tremendous success.

In keeping with our commitment to provide quality programming, WHPC is proud to introduce a number of new student produced programs. NCC student hosts Mocha and Colorado present The Afterparty, bringing you the latest and greatest in Hip-Hop, R & B, and Reggae music. Sunday Rock hosted by Ghia Birnbaum and Ali Post, brings you an eclectic mix of rock from the 90’s through today. NCC student hosts Stephen Pellegrino and Rob Brill present Metal for the Masses, featuring a mix of metal music and interviews from the Long Island heavy metal scene. In addition, WHPC will be offering a new health related show entitled Music is Therapy. Registered music therapist Larry Carlson taps into music and its effect on the healing process. These are just some of the exciting changes taking place at WHPC. Look for more in the coming months! We would also like to thank our listeners whose comments have helped us better understand the role college radio plays in their lives and has allowed us to evolve and implement change. We look forward to moving ahead with the best in music, entertainment, public affairs, local and national news and NCC events. Please send your comments to WHPC@ncc.edu
