The program is designed to provide academic and clinical education, which will prepare graduates to assume the duties of a physical therapist assistant (PTA). PTA duties may include delivering:

  • therapeutic exercises to improve strength, endurance, coordination and range of motion
  • pain relieving treatments such as heat, cold, ultrasound, traction and electrical stimulation
  • gait and balance training using exercises and devices such as walkers, canes and crutches
  • manual procedures such as stretching and massage
  • developmental activities for children
  • training in activities of daily living, such as negotiating in the home and community
  • measurements of patient’s range of motion or strength
  • documentation of treatments
  • patient education

Jobs are available in sports medicine facilities, outpatient clinics, private practices, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, pediatric centers, schools and other health service agencies.
