When candidates pass the General Educational Development Test (GED®) they receive a diploma that is equivalent to a high school diploma. Employers, as well as admissions offices in colleges and universities accept the GED® certificate or diploma as they would a high school diploma. The GED® test matches a high school curriculum and covers reading, writing, social studies, science and math. The GED® Tests are only given at official GED® Testing Centers approved by the New York State Education Department. There is no online or computer-based GED® testing available at the present time.
New York State Education Department has established the rules as to who is eligible to take the GED® test. Applications/attachments, FAQ's, and test locations are available at the NY State Education Department http://www.acces.nysed.gov/ged

The 24 Credit Program at NCC allows students to take college classes that count towards a GED and a college degree. Students must be 18 years of age or older, be one year past the date from when they would have graduated from high school and have a genuine desire to obtain a college degree.
Students complete college credits in a variety of areas including math, humanities, English language arts, social science and natural science. Academic advisors will be available to help with course selection.
Once the student has completed the appropriate 24 credits, the student must apply to Albany to receive their GED, issued on the basis of those college credits. The college credits will then also apply to their degree program.
Students must attend an informational meeting, offered monthly by the Admissions Department. All the details of the program will be discussed at the meeting including the application process, cost, length of time to complete and courses needed, as well as placement testing information. For further information about this program, please contact the Office of Admissions at 516.572.7345.
No reservations are required. If driving to campus, give yourself extra time to pick up a Parking Permit at the Public Safety Office and find a parking spot before the meeting. Please arrive on time
