EARLY ADMISSIONThe College enables some high school students who have completed their junior year to enroll as full-time freshmen. Although credits completed as an Early Admission student may apply towards an NCC degree or certificate, the student is not considered degree-seeking until achievement of their high school diploma. Arrangements can be made with the high school so that successful completion of the freshman year of college entitles these students to a high school diploma. Students applying for early admission must normally meet the following minimum requirements:
- Completion of the junior year (11th grade) of high school;
- Completion of at least 16 academic units of college-prep courses in high school;
- Achievement in high school that would place the applicant in the upper 20 percent of the high school class;
- Standardized test scores which give strong evidence of intellectual ability to do college work;
- Sufficient emotional maturity to cope with and benefit from an early college experience as evidenced in an interview with an admissions counselor;
- Permission of the high school counselor or principal
HIGH SCHOOL ENRICHMENTThe College also enables some high school seniors to enroll in college courses (a maximum of two courses per semester) during the regular academic year while continuing to attend high school. Although credits completed as an Enrichment student may apply towards an NCC degree or certificate, the student is not considered degree-seeking. Students applying for this enrichment option usually must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Completion of the junior year (11th grade) of high school;
- Achievement in high school that would place the applicant in the upper 20 percent in subjects being elected for advanced study;
- Evidence of sufficient emotional maturity to cope with and benefit from an early college experience as evidenced in an interview with an admissions counselor;
- Acceptable general academic achievement in high school;
- Permission of high school counselor or principal
HONORS CONNECTIONHigh school juniors and seniors who elect the enrichment option described above and who have consistently excelled in high school can take a class in the Honors sequence at the College (see below). To qualify, students must have a 90 percent average in academic subjects and a minimum score of 1000 on the PSAT or SAT exam (500 minimum on each of the critical reading and math sections). Interested students should contact the Honors Program coordinator for additional information regarding application at 516.572.7194.
