Nassau Community College Celebrates Italian Heritage Day

Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College is pleased to present its 32nd annual Italian Heritage Day program Italian American Heroes and Celebrities, which will take place on Monday, October 16 at 9:00 a.m. in the College Center Building.

During the program, Vincent Mamorale, who has presented many workshops on the Holocaust on the national level, will present "Italians Rescue Holocaust Victims." While researching the little known story of the saving of Jews by Italian people during the Holocaust, Mamorale was an honored guest of the president of Italy, and in 2008, he and three survivors had an audience with Pope Benedict. Mamorale's research contributed to the documentary My Italian Secret: The Forgotten Heroes. Next, NCC Prof. Salvatore LaGumina will speak about "Spies, Surveillance and Sabotage: Italian Americans Serve." Finally, Italian American Actor Tony LoBianco — who appeared in The French Connection, The Seven-Ups and Jesus of Nazareth, among other plays and movies — will discuss "The Making of an Italian American Actor".Italian American Heroes and Celebrities is free, open to the public and accessible to the disabled.
