Garden City, NY - The Theatre and Dance Department at Nassau Community College will present Free to Be...You and Me, a children's musical based on the popular record album and illustrated songbook conceived by actress Marlo Thomas and created in collaboration with many celebrities, including Carl Reiner, Sheldon Harnick and Judy Blume. The musical will be performed on October 20-22 and 27-29 at the Little Theatre.

The idea to create the original album Free to Be...You and Me, first released in 1972, came from Marlo Thomas, who wanted to teach her young niece that dreams and aspirations need not be limited by the gender stereotypes and worn-out conventions that were evident in children's books of the time.

Free to Be...You and Me espouses such values as individuality and happiness with one's identity. A television special based on the book, with the songs and stories performed by celebrities, was an Emmy award winner.  Here is a link for more information about the play:  http://www.rnh.com

Performances of the play are 7:00 p.m. on Friday and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. For more information or to order tickets, call the Theatre box office at 516.572.7676.
