The Nassau Community College Department of Theatre and Dance Presents

HairApril 29-May 1 & May 4-8

Garden City, NY – The Nassau Community College Department of Theatre and Dance will present the musical Hair April 29-May 1 and May 4-8 at the Mainstage Theatre.

Hair puts rock music and the culture that went with it on stage. The show was a bridge between generations and viewpoints. Musical numbers include Aquarius, Good Morning Starshine and Hair! Hair tells the story of the "tribe," a group of politically active, long-haired hippies of the "Age of Aquarius" living a bohemian life in New York City and fighting against conscription into the Vietnam War. Claude, his good friend Berger, their roommate Sheila and their friends struggle to balance their young lives, loves and the sexual revolution with their rebellion against the war, their conservative parents and society. Ultimately, Claude must decide whether to resist the draft as his friends have done, or to succumb to the pressures of his parents (and conservative America) to serve in Vietnam, compromising his pacifist principles and risking his life.

Performances of Hair are at 8:00 p.m. on April 29, 30 and May 4, 5, 6 and 7. There are 2:00 p.m. matinee performances on May 1, 7 and 8. Tickets are priced at $18.00; $12.00 for seniors aged 55 and over and those under 18. Free rush tickets will be available at the door (beginning one hour before curtain, while supplies last) for college students with valid current ID for weeknight performances only. College students with valid current ID may purchase a Saturday or Sunday performance of the play for $5.00.
