Garden City, NY – The Spring 2011 Cultural Program at Nassau Community College is proud to present U.S. Department of Health National Spokesperson Tonya Lewis Lee, who will discuss Healthy Parenting on Monday, March 14 at 12:30 p.m. in the College Center Building.

Tonya Lewis Lee is the national spokesperson for the A Healthy Baby Begins With You campaign initiated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health. Through this initiative, Lee is raising awareness about the infant mortality crisis in the African American community and advocating for healthier lifestyles for all women. Lee received her BA from Sarah Lawrence College and JD from the University of Virginia School of Law. After practicing law, she turned to writing and producing for television and founded her own multi-media company, Madstone Media, Inc. In 2002, Lee co-authored her first children’s book with husband Spike Lee. She subsequently wrote additional children’s books and the bestselling novel Gotham Diaries. Lee also continues to produce and write television documentaries.
