Nassau Community College to Host American Heart Walk Sunday, October 4

Garden City, NY Nassau Community College is the official Nassau County location for this year's American Heart Walk. Nearly 3,000 volunteers and participants are expected to take part in the Walk, which will take place on Sunday, October 4 at the NCC Field House, with a health fair and registration from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and the Walk itself starting at 10:00 a.m.

“Nassau Community College is pleased to be the Nassau County host for the American Heart Walk for the eighth year,” said Dr. Sean A. Fanelli, President of NCC. “The partnership established over the years between the College and the American Heart Association has created opportunities for thousands of walkers to raise much needed funding for heart and stroke research.”

This year's honoree, Chuck Henke, of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department, survived two heart attacks since 2005. He teaches camping, weightlifting and racquetball. Henke, who believes that everyone should be aware of their physical condition and vigilant in knowing the warning signs of a possible heart condition, resides in Huntington Station with his wife Susan. They have two sons and four grandchildren.

Arthur Gianelli, the Chair of the 2009 American Heart Walk, is President and Chief Executive Officer of Nassau Health Care Corporation. Reginald Tuggle, the Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communications at the College, is the NCC Heart Walk Team Chair.

The American Heart Walk, sponsored by the American Heart Association, is a 5K walking event established to raise funds in the fight against heart disease and stroke on Long Island. It also promotes cardiovascular health and regular exercise.
