Literature Live! at Nassau Community College Presents Poet Sabrina Orab Mark, October 2

Garden City, NY The Creative Writing Project at Nassau Community College is pleased to present poet Sabrina Orab Mark, who will read from her book The Babies on Thursday, October 2 at 1:00 p.m. in the Bradley Hall Ballroom. Mark will appear as part of the Creative Writing Project's Literature Live! reading series.

The Babies is a book of prose poems that deals with the Holocaust not in a realistic sense, but, in the words of one reviewer, by "remov[ing] the emotional and psychological reality from its historical context and recast[ing] it as a series of often grim, often haunting, surreal vignettes."

Raised in Brooklyn, Mark received a B.A. from Barnard College, an M.F.A. from the Iowa Writers' Workshop and a Ph.D. from The University of Georgia. Her poems have appeared in many journals. The Babies, her first book of poetry, won the 2004 Saturnalia Books Poetry Prize. Mark's second book, Tsim Tsum, will be published in 2009. She teaches literature and creative writing at Agnes Scott College and The University of Georgia, where she is a Park Fellow.

For more information about Sabrina Orab Mark's appearance at Nassau Community College, which is free and open to the public, contact Prof. Richard Jeffrey Newman, Creative Writing Project Coordinator, at 516.572.7720.
