The Nassau Community College Center for Catholic Studies Presents "Nothing to Hide: Secrecy, Communication, and Communion in the Catholic Church", October 11

Garden City, NY The Nassau Community College Center for Catholic Studies is proud to sponsor a lecture by author Russell Shaw on his latest book, Nothing to Hide: Secrecy, Communication, and Communion in the Catholic Church. The lecture will take place on Saturday, October 11 at 1:30 p.m. in the College Center Building.

Russell Shaw is a prominent Catholic author and journalist and former director of information for the United States Catholic Conference. Making a distinction between appropriateness and secrecy, his book focuses on the unfortunate and long standing consequences of unnecessary secrecy and lack of open and effective communication within the Catholic Church. Shaw analyzes how unnecessary secrecy in the Church weakens community, maintains a second-class status for the laity and impedes the speedy and just resolution of any number of crises affecting the religious institution. He also offers some practical suggestions for resolving the problem of unnecessary secrecy at all levels of the Catholic Church.

This event is free and open to the public, but requires both registration and a parking permit. To register and receive a permit, contact the NCC Office of Lifelong Learning at 516.572.7472.
