Garden City, NY Dr. Sean A. Fanelli, President of Nassau Community College, has announced his intention to retire. In a letter to the NCC Board of Trustees, Dr. Fanelli said that he will not seek a renewal of his term as president once his current contract expires in January of 2010. Dr. Fanelli stated in his letter that, "It has been my privilege for more than twenty-six years to serve as President of Nassau Community College. During that time, I have seen the many facets of NCC that truly make it the wonderful institution that it is today. . . . For all these reasons and more, I have been blessed to have been associated with NCC for more than a quarter of a century. But I also recognize that this blessing is only mine in trust. I always knew, from the moment I first entered my office, that there would be a time for me to pass on this trust to someone else."

There will be a committee formed to find the successor to Dr. Fanelli. "I look forward to being as helpful to the Board as is possible as it embarks upon the search process for a new president and to offering to assist the Board's choice as she or he takes on the honor and the challenge of being NCC's next president. I am confident that with this new president and with the support of the entire campus community, the success of Nassau Community College, which began almost a half century ago, will indeed continue," said Dr. Fanelli in his letter. It is hoped that a new president will be hired by late summer 2009.
