HIV/AIDS Awareness
Garden City, NY In recognition of HIV/AIDS Awareness Week, Nassau Community College will for the seventeenth consecutive year present a series of programs addressing the issues surrounding the condition. NCC HIV/AIDS educators will offer programs that deal with this virus to students and the community. During HIV/AIDS Awareness Week, the College will host the following events:
Guest Lecture By Jeff BosakiTuesday, March 20 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.NCC Physical Education Complex Dance Studio (Lower Level)
Guest Lecturer Jeff Bosaki will speak about current information about the HIV virus Ð his personal experience with it, as well as his work in Africa as Executive Director of the International AIDS Prevention Initiative.
AIDS Memorial Quilt Display
AIDS: The Care Givers - A Photo ExhibitWednesday, March 21 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.mNCC Physical Education Complex (Field House)
In addition to the quilt display and photo exhibit, representatives from several community organizations will staff resource tables to provide printed information about HIV/AIDS.
Dance Performances by Richard DanielsThursday, March 22 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.NCC Physical Education Complex Dance Studio (Lower Level)
Dancer Richard Daniels will perform two dance pieces that tell a story of loss and life and hope.
These programs are sponsored by the NCC Office of Academic Student Services; the College's Departments of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, Art, Music and Women's Studies; and the NCC Women's Center. Peer educators will be available at all programs to deliver information regarding HIV/AIDS. Admission is free and the public is invited. All programs are accessible to the disabled.
