Garden City, NY - Nassau Community College is pleased to be a host site for the 11th annual Governmental GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) Update on Thursday, November 9 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The satellite teleconference is presented at several sites across the country by the Government Finance Officers Association. This unique program offers participants an opportunity to obtain a comprehensive overview of all the past year's developments affecting accounting and financial reporting for state and local governments. Last year's update was attended by over 3,000 people.

Some of the topics that will be covered at the 2006 teleconference include proposed new standards from the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) on fund balance; final GASB guidance on pollution remediation obligations; proposed guidance on derivatives and intangibles; updates to the GASB's Comprehensive Implementation Guide; and common financial reporting deficiencies and recent practice issues. The update is led by Stephen J. Gauthier, Director of Technical Services for the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). GFOA is the professional association of state, provincial and local finance officers in the United States and Canada. Approximately 16,000 individuals are members of the organization, which is open to everyone whose career, studies or interests involve government financial management.

Those who complete the teleconference will receive four CPE credits. For more information about the upcoming Annual Governmental GAAP Satellite Teleconference at Nassau Community College, which will be held in the NCC Tower, please call Joanne DeFeo, the on-site coordinator, at 516.572.7343.
