Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College–site of the 2007 American Heart Walk on Sunday, September 30, 2007–has named Bernard Maltese its honoree for the event.  Maltese, who worked for the Post Office for 35 years, is assistant to the Coordinator of the International Student Affairs Department of the College.  "I'm truly honored to be this year's NCC honoree," he said.

In May 1995, Maltese had a quadruple bypass.  Since then he has had several other heart related procedures.  Maltese is extremely appreciative of the medical and technological advances that made his operation possible.  Since his experience, Gallo urges others to get regular checkups, take care of their health and diet, exercise and be alert for the warning signs of possible heart disease.

The American Heart Walk, sponsored by the American Heart Association, is a 5K walking event established to raise funds in the fight against heart disease and stroke on Long Island.  It also promotes cardiovascular health and regular exercise.

Maltese, who lives in Massapequa with his wife Rosann, has four children and four grandchildren.
