Nassau Community College Psychology Professor Dr. Wendy Eisner

Receives “Education Partner” Award from Nassau BOCES

Garden City, NY –

Nassau Community College is proud to announce that Roslyn Heights resident Wendy Eisner, Ph.D., a psychology professor and coordinator of the Achilles Project at the College, was a recent recipient of the Nassau BOCES “Education Partner” award.  The award pays tribute to educators who share the organization’s commitment to providing the best possible education for learners of all ages and abilities.

Dr. Eisner’s accomplishments are noteworthy.  She is a published author in the fields of psychology and education.  Dr. Eisner received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and has also won the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Excellence Award for teaching in “open door” settings.  An Institute for Community College Development/SUNY-Cornell Partnership grant recipient for the Achilles Project, Dr. Eisner is also cofounder of the Long Island Twice Exceptional Children’s Advocacy (LI-TECA), and is currently on the group’s advisory board.  Dr. Eisner received her bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Wellesley College, her master’s in anthropology from Columbia University and her doctorate in psychology from the City University of New York.

One of Dr. Eisner’s areas of research is how to best educate “twice exceptional” students.  Twice exceptional individuals show areas of strength and challenge and profound discrepancies between the two.  Dr. Eisner initiated the Achilles Project for twice exceptional students at Nassau in the spring of 2007.  The Achilles Project uses a holistic educational approach, addressing students’ academic and social-emotional needs, and catering to their areas of strength and weakness.  Dr. Eisner was nominated for the Education Partner award by the parent of one of the Achilles Project students.

NCC President Dr. Sean Fanelli and the Nassau Community College community congratulate Dr. Eisner upon receiving her award.
