Garden City, NY–Art students from Nassau Community College participated in the 2008 Long Island Art Competition, held recently at the Student Activities Center Gallery at Stony Brook University. Nassau art students won two first prizes and 5 honorable mentions.
Janine Block, a resident of Port Washington, won first prize for her acrylic self-portrait. Tim Williams of Bayville also won first prize for an untitled photograph. The honorable mention winners were: Matthew Willet of Glen Cove for the mixed media Portrait of a Thief; Sarah Jane Jaramillo of Bellerose, Queens for the photograph Girl with Pearl Earring; Rachel King of East Meadow, for the acrylic Fall to Summer; Ashley Duffy of Mineola, for the acrylic Still Life; and Raquel Hematian of Great Neck for the sculpture Family Dinner.
The Long Island College Art Competition (LICA) is an invitational competition open to all the colleges and universities of Nassau and Suffolk counties. The goal of the competition is to highlight the broad range of talent within these colleges and to put the various student bodies in dialogue with one another.
