Garden City, NY – The Nassau Community College Jewish Studies Program is proud to present Dr. Jane Gerber in “Secret Jews in the Old and New Worlds,” which will take place on Tuesday, April 1 at 1:00 p.m. in the College Center Building. Dr. Gerber’s presentation will focus on Jewish communities that were expelled or forced to convert in such places as Spain and Latin America. This program is part of the Jewish Studies Program’s spring 2008 lecture series.
Dr. Jane Gerber, who holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University, is the author of several books, including Sephardic Studies in the University, The Jews of Spain and Jewish Society in Fez. She also has written numerous articles. Dr. Gerber has received a Dorot Foundation award, a Fulbright Award, a National Jewish Book Award and a fellowship from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. A past president of the Association for Jewish Studies, Dr. Gerber is on the Boards of the Association and the American Society for Sephardic Studies.
