Garden City, NY –The Nassau Community College Spring 2007 Cultural Program will host a presentation by Former New York State Senator Seymour P. Lachman, who will discuss his book Three Men in a Room: The Inside Story of Power and Betrayal in an American Statehouse. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the College Center Building on Monday, April 23 at 3:30 p.m.

Three Men in a Room examines the dysfunction that abounds in state politics, with a focus on Albany, one of the country's largest and most powerful state governments–and one that became a model of corruption and inefficiency. Senator Lachman, who served four terms as a New York State Senator, draws on his own experiences, as well as those of Mario Cuomo and Elliot Spitzer, to provide a behind the scenes look into America's state governments. The votes of New Yorkers don't matter, according to Lachman, because in the New York State legislature, just three men hold virtually all the cards: the Governor, the Speaker and the Majority Leader.

Before joining the New York State Senate, Lachman had a distinguished career in education at the City University of New York. He also served as the president of the New York City Board of Education. Lachman holds a Ph.D. from New York University and an M.A. and B.A. from Brooklyn College.
