There are two options for students who wish to receive a General Educational Development (GED) Certificate through Nassau Community College.
-
Take the GED test, which is offered through our Department of Lifelong Learning. There is currently no charge to take the GED, test but there is a fee if you choose to take the review classes offered in the verbal and math areas. If you select this option, please call 516-572-7667 or visit our Lifelong Learning-GED Test.
-
Complete the 24 credit GED program. This option is available to students that are at least 18 years of age, a member of a high school class that graduated one year ago, and who exhibit a genuine desire to obtain a college degree. Students applying for this status must meet with a counselor from the Office of Admissions as part of the application process. This program allows students to take college classes that count not only towards a college degree, but also towards a GED. Once the student has completed the appropriate college credits, they can apply to N.Y. State Education Department to receive their GED, which will be issued on the basis of the 24 college credits.
For further information about this program, you can consult our College Catalog (look under Admissions) or you can contact the Office of Admissions at 516-572-7345.
