Multi-Disciplinary Courses (MDC Courses) at Nassau Community College are a great foundation for students in any major or career program. The emphasis in all MDC courses is in making connections between ideas and events, critical thinking, analysis, writing and speaking.
MDC courses transfer to SUNY colleges and many other institutions, such as Adelphi and Queens College, as Core or Integrative Studies. They also fulfill global studies and multi-cultural studies requirements at many schools. MDC courses give students the strong background they need to compete as university juniors and seniors in any field of study.
MDC courses were originated at Nassau with the support of two substantial grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, The National Science Foundation, and FIPSE. All MDC instructors, drawn from 28 departments at the College, have studied in faculty seminars to develop skills necessary for teaching the relevance of issues that affect the world-community today. MDC students work closely with a faculty that is well informed and enthusiastic about their ideas. The MDC project involves conferences, film festivals, essay competitions and other extra-curricular activities for MDC students. The MDC curriculum has been cited in the publication 1,000 Exemplary Programs in America's Two-Year Colleges.
