The English as a Second Language (ESL) program at Nassau Community College is a set of courses housed in the college that is designed for students whose first language is not English. ESL courses at the College are taught by faculty members from the following departments: Communications, English and Reading.  Advanced level courses in reading, writing and speaking/listening are taught in the fall, spring and summer semesters for matriculated students. The ESL program offers non-credit and some credit courses. Students who pass advanced level ESL courses will have the skills to succeed in college-level courses and to work towards an Associate's Degree in the major of their choice.

All students entering NCC take the College placement test, which determines their level of study. Students whose scores place them below the NCC ESL program courses are placed into the Language Immersion at Nassau Community College (LINCC) program. This full-time, pre-academic program is housed in the Center for Academic Success. For more information about LINCC click here.
