2008 NYS Economics Challenge
Held at Nassau Community College
March 12, 2008 • 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Nassau Center for Economic Education has been chosen to develop and run the NYS Economics Challenge. This statewide competition for high school seniors studying economics and finance is supported by the Goldman-Sachs Foundation and the National Council on Economic Education (NCEE). Winners at the state level move on to a regional competition. Winners of the regional Economics Challenge will compete at the National Economics Challenge held in NYC. All levels have prizes and awards.

Mathematics and Economics: Connections for Life
Presenters: Ethel Weeks, Ph.D. and Ann Marie Pagnotta
Long Island Council for the Social Studies Annual Conference

This workshop demonstrates a variety of ways in which teachers can use economic concepts to motivate their students' interest in mathematics. Economics and mathematics concepts are combined with active learning techniques. Web resources are introduced as support. Targeted level is grades 3 through 5.

 

Financing Your Future
Friday, November 30, 2007
1:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Nassau Community College

Each workshop participant will receive a copy of the Financing Your Future DVD (a $99 value of 5 Videos and 15 Lessons) to introduce major principles in personal finance. The workshop will provide a coordinated, comprehensive set of lesson plans, student activities, handouts and teacher education materials. Some topics covered include banking, credit and establishing a financial plan. In addition there is a test bank of challenging questions that can be used for assessment. Certificates will be presented to attendees.

This workshop is delivered to you at no cost. Participants will receive a copy of the Financing Your Future DVD ($99 value) and a light lunch and refreshments.

Funding for this workshop is provided to the Nassau Center for Economic Education by the NCEE through a grant from the Citigroup Foundation
